I've always loved George Gershwin’s music, and reading about him, I was amazed to discover his remarkable romances and the songs these loves inspired. From the adorable Adele Astaire, Broadway star and Fred’s sister, to married composer Kay Swift, and his last great love Paulette Goddard, (Charlie Chaplin’s wife), and many others (often at the same time), women and men found him irresistible. All the while his retiring brother Ira was watching and transformed George’s escapades into clever lyrics, blending words perfectly with George’s unforgettable melodies, to create some of the great love songs of the American Songbook.
I'm thrilled to have the amazing John Di Martino on piano and special guest the fabulous singer Deanna Kirk share this adventure with me.

On February 27, 2020, performers and friends came together for Make America Laugh and Sing Again, a sold-out "wildly entertaining" evening of hilarity and song to benefit CommonCause.org at Pangea, the East Village Alt-Cabaret Supper Club.
A big thank you to all who joined us the make the night such a success! And to the performers who donated their time and talent to make it such a great show: the hilarious Stan Baker, the charming chanteuse Mariah Bonner, legendary musician/songwriter/writer Michael Lydon, uber-talented composer and pianist Ellen Mandel. I had the pleasure of producing, performing and emceeing.
Thank you Jon Waldman for the excellent stills and video of the show. Thank you Todd Stuart Phillips for editing the video and titles.
Join us to keep MAKE AMERICA LAUGHING AND SINGING! It's needed now more than ever!
We launched the Women's Power Toolkit podcast series during the sudden pandemic shelter-at -home that began in March 2020 to bring together experts and visionaries in their fields to explore ideas to help us to learn and thrive.
From Dr. Tia Powell sharing what life is like on the medical front lines and Harvard law professor Randy Kennedy on civil liberties during COVID to New Yorker cartoonist Liza Donnelly and rock writer and musician Michael Lydon on the power of music for change, each has their own fascinating insights and story to tell.
Composer Ellen Mandel talks about how music can change your life.
Writers Ann Hedreen and Dana Robbins discuss the healing power of memoir and poetry.
It has been a joy to come together for conversation, ideas and friendship. We are stronger when we connect and share.

The legendary Maud Gonne left her mark on everyone she met. She famously won the devotion of one of the greatest poets of the age, William Butler Yeats. But she was so much more. An actress, a journalist, an activist and early media influencer for the cause of Irish independence.
Enjoy my conversation with famed singer, author and vocal coach Judith Mok about the power of music.
When Dublin, Ireland was locked down due to COVID-19, Judith began to give free concerts from her balcony. Word spread and crowds gathered to enjoy her beautiful voice. For her inspiring work, she was awarded the 2020 Covid–19 Response Award.
Lisa's talk at the International Digital Publishing Summit in Paris.
